United Kingdom
Current Situation
With 8 Nuclear power plants, a total of 15 operational reactors, the United Kingdom receives 17% of its electricity from nuclear.
40% of its clean electricity comes from nuclear.
The country is currently building a nuclear plant called Hinkley Point C, which is expected to come online in the next 5 years.
Hinkley Point C is the first to be built since 1995, and, when it goes online, it will supply 7% of UK’s electricity.
Another nuclear power plant, Sizewell C, is in planning stages.
Should Prime Minister Johnson’s government commit to both projects, the United Kingdom would quickly become the West’s leader in nuclear energy.

EP in the UK
Back in 2019 Environmental Progress visited with our allies in the UK and was able to tour the Hinkley Point C plant that is under construction. We plan on returning in September 2020 to attend the UK’s Stand Up for Nuclear Event.
