Texas
It would take 63 nuclear reactors to completely decarbonize Texas’ electric grid with only nuclear energy.
Texas’ electrical prices have risen 16 percent from 2000 to 2019, which is less than California, New York, and Illinois. Those states saw price increases of 62, 29, and 39 percent, respectively.
From 2004 to 2019, Texas’ carbon emissions fell from 256 million to 218 million metric tons, a decline of 15 percent. California, Illinois, and New York’s emissions fell 33, 37, and 57 percent in the same time frame. Texas has by far more emissions than those states, more than 5 times California, 3.5 times Illinois, and 9 times New York.
